From the introdution "...All of the events I have organized have a common factor; that they are open to participants from the community at large; and participation means the individual takes responsibility for creating a costume and person through which they relate to the activities of the event. My events play down competition.., by rearranging the standards for winning...and by awarding many prizes, with Degrees os Bananology going to ALL who partecipate. The accent is on enjoying the activity rather than achieving a prize. These events usually stress the nonsense factor, so prevalent in our "serious" day to day living, but never acknowledged. They provide an outlet for the individual to crate and enjoy nonsense. In these times of mass culture via the media of TV, radio, newspapers and magazines through which consumer are either entertained or informed, Bananological events set up times and places for individuals to step out of their "serious consumer" roles, and create a personal mythology in the context of the event..."
