“Oh Mélancolie, Aigre Château des Aigles”. The objects that compose it are postcards, slides, small objects found in the antiques markets, and transport boxes. The sections vary continuously, from the “Nineteenth century”, to advertising, cinema, literature etc., giving rise to multiple exhibitions. The idea has a precedent in Galerie Légitime that Robert Filliu establishs in 1962: it was his adapted hat to contain small works to be able to show them to anyone by wandering through Paris. The difference is that the Broodthaers museum works as a real institution. The moment of maximum splendor is the exhibition at the Kunsthalle of Düsseldorf, when he exhibits the “Section des figures”: 300 objects of different eras and countries on the theme of the “eagle”. In front of each grouping a cartel is placed: “Ceci n’est pas uno oeuvre d’Arte”. The museum is officially closed by Broodthars shortly after, with its exhibition in the context of Documento V in Kassel. In the document press release he declares: “Une fiction permitting de saisir la vérité et en même temps there are leather cache”.
