Jonathan Monk / 55,5
MONK Jonathan (Leicester 1969), Paris, Onestar Press, 2015, 22x15,5 cm., hardcover, pp. [116], red canvas cover with the title impressed in gold. Artist's book entirely made up of black and white reproductions, Xerox printed, of flyers that the artist found during one of his Rome stays. With this Monk jokes on the famous "111" book by Alighiero Boetti, reducing at his half all the visual and conceptual elements: the title is 55,5 instead of 111, the pages are 55,5 (one is cut) and also the size is exactly the half of the original volume. Edition of 10 + 3 ors commerce and 3 artist's proofs. Exemplar left hand signed, numbered A.P. 1.

"Following Alighiero e Boetti’s 1992 artist’s book 111 in which xeroxed A4 news clips and personal ephemera were bound within the artist’s signature red cover cloth with gold embossing, Jonathan Monk, in 2015, has amassed fifty and a half flyers (found or handed to the artist directly in the streets during his stay in Rome) before photocopying, binding and slipping in one loose A6 flyer, for this new onestar press project. Aptly titled 55,5, Monk’s book is half the size of Boetti’s original work and includes an inspired dedication to the late-artist in the form of a left-hand written colophon for this edition." from publisher's website
