Fiona Banner aka The Vanity Press / Scroll Down And Keep Scrolling
Fiona Banner aka The Vanity Press [Fiona Banner] (Liverpool 1966)
London, The Vanity Press, in association with Ikon, Birmingham, and Kunsthalle Nürnberg, 2015, 29.6 × 21 × 6.4 cm, Softcover in an artist-designed card sleeve, 832 pp., substantial artist’s book bringing together informal photographs, documents and ephemera from thirty years of Fiona Banner’s archive. Conceived in the form of a large directory, the volume approaches her practice through the material surrounding the artworks rather than through conventional reproductions of finished pieces. Across 832 pages, it presents artistic production as an ongoing process, questioning the role of the printed publication in the Internet age. Typeset in Font, a typeface developed by Banner with Fraser Muggeridge studio. The title connects looking back through an archive with the potentially endless movement of digital scrolling, while also recalling the scroll as a form predating the bound book.
Published in association with Ikon and Kunsthalle Nürnberg.
